Speakers

Jeffrey Hoover is an architect with Boston-based Tappe Associates. Mr. Hoover specializes in programming, planning and design of learning environments, with particular focus on libraries, as well as master plans and feasibility studies for colleges and universities. He is interested in designing library spaces that inspire and foster collaborative learning environments and incorporate emerging technologies.

Mr. Hoover regularly presents seminars and lectures for: American Library Association national conferences, the New England Library Association Conference, and the Boston Society of Architects Annual Convention (“Build Boston”), and the annual Traditional Building Conference.   He has been an instructor for Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design’s Office of Executive Education, teaching Library Planning and Design, since 1999.Recently he has been oft quoted in Library Journal and Library-by-Design relative to emerging trends and innovations in library planning and design. Jeff has recently been Chair of the Architecture for Public Libraries Committee for the American Library Association and a committee member since 2001.

Jessamyn West is an author, community technology librarian and community manager of the group blog MetaFilter.com. She lives in a rural area of Central Vermont where she teaches basic computer skills. She assists tiny libraries with technology planning and implementation. She is the author of numerous articles and the recently published book, Without a Net – Librarians Bridging the Digital Divide.

Phil Swan is an Associate Professor at Hunter College and is the Head Librarian of the Schools of Social Work and Public Health Library. He has been a faculty member at Hunter since 2000. He has a Master of Science in Information degree from the University of Michigan and a Master of Arts in American History from the College of William and Mary.

Calvert Wright leads Calvert Wright Architecture PC| Spatial Discipline, an architectural design studio since 1998. Over the past several years, the firm has cultivated a diverse selection of commercial, institutional, residential and retail projects. He received his BA from Columbia University, and Masters in Architecture from Princeton University. Calvert has taught architectural design at Princeton University and Cornell University. He has also written a column on architecture and design for Vitals magazine.

David Koenigstein was appointed Associate Professor and has been a Reference/Instruction Librarian at Bronx Community College since 1998. He has been chronicling the construction of the new Library at BCC photographically since its groundbreaking in 2009.
